Storing perfumes

Tips for storing perfumes

When purchasing perfume, we want to enjoy its fragrance for as long as possible. The shelf life of perfume is usually around three years with proper use. Below are tips for care and proper storage. By following these, we can protect the delicate substances in perfumes and extend their longevity.

Best Practices for Storing Bottles:

  • upright
  • tightly sealed
  • in the original box
  • away from light
  • in a cool room without sudden temperature changes

Common Mistakes to Avoid:

  • placing products near windows – sunlight adversely affects the fragrance ingredients;
  • storing perfume bottles in the bathroom – although it may seem convenient, it is a bad idea due to high humidity;
  • placing perfumes near heat sources (e.g., radiators) – the quality of perfume deteriorates when exposed to high temperatures;
  • storing perfume in the refrigerator – many people think that keeping perfume in a cool place means storing it in the fridge. This is also a bad idea as refrigerators, along with low temperatures, also have moisture, which is equally harmful to perfumes.

Once we know the rules for storing perfume, it's worth knowing some tricks to make the fragrance last longer on the body.

Moisturized Skin

Perfume lasts longer on well-moisturized skin. Before applying perfume, use an unscented body lotion or oil on the areas where you will apply the scent.

Application on Pulse Points

Perfume is best applied to pulse points, where the blood pulses. These places include the wrists, behind the ears, on the neck, and inside the elbows and knees. The warmth in these areas helps to release the fragrance gradually.

Not Rubbing Wrists Together

After applying perfume to the wrists, avoid rubbing them together. Rubbing breaks down the fragrance molecules, shortening their longevity.

Application on Clothes

Lightly spraying clothing (from a suitable distance to avoid damaging the fabric, especially delicate materials) can also prolong the fragrance's lasting power.

Application on Hair

Spraying hair (from a suitable distance) can also prolong the longevity of the perfume. Hair holds fragrance well, but be careful not to dry it out with the alcohol in perfumes.

Using these methods will help you enjoy your favorite scent for a longer time.
